We’re proud to announce that ADComms has been awarded Route to Gold – Gold Site Recognition for successfully delivering a highly complex and safety-critical project at the Kent & Sussex Three Bridges site – and it was the highest scoring site in the Southern Region for the whole of 2025!

The challenge? Replacing an End-of-Life UPS powering the MXOne switch – a vital piece of infrastructure carrying 1,518 telephone circuits and 2 trunk links, supporting both safety-critical and operationally-critical communications across 9 UK regions. These include:

  • bullet

User Works Crossing telephones – enabling the public to contact signallers for safe level crossing use

  • bullet

Lift & Platform help points – connecting passengers to emergency services

  • bullet

Signal Box to Signal Box direct lines – ensuring rapid communication between signal boxes

With the MXOne switch operational for 11.5 years and no longer supported, the risk of a power cycle failure was significant – potentially impacting railway operations and passenger safety nationwide.

To mitigate this, our team developed an innovative process using temporary power supplies to maintain continuous operation during the UPS replacement. This involved:

  • bullet

Collaboration with NR and DDAT stakeholders

  • bullet

Risk acceptance across all affected regions

  • bullet

On-site DDAT Field Services support for immediate response

The works were completed under a Planned Works 'At Risk Notification' and delivered successfully and safely – a testament to our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence.
