As part of London Underground’s Deep Tube Upgrade Programme (DTUP), ADComms was awarded a five‑year NEC3 Option D Target Cost contract to deliver a next‑generation One‑Person Operation (OPO) CCTV system on the Piccadilly Line.
To expedite the installation and commissioning works on the critical Areas 1 and 2, London Underground arranged a 46-hour Possession over the whole of the Piccadilly Line for the 3rd weekend in January 2026.

The Piccadilly Line is the fourth busiest Underground line and the second longest on the network.

Access to the railway during standard engineering hours is highly constrained, with already limited possession windows further reduced by Night Tube operations. This introduces additional complexities around train movements, traction current isolation and strict hand back requirements.
As a result, a significant proportion of working time can be consumed by preparatory and closeout activities rather than productive installation. Crews often spend valuable hours transporting materials and equipment to and from site, allowing only a short window for effective installation work and reducing overall productivity.

ADComms completed a 46‑hour full line possession, which provided extended, uninterrupted access to accelerate delivery.
During the possession, 175 ADComms personnel and partners delivered installation, testing and commissioning works across 18 stations. Successfully delivering the equivalent of one month’s work in a single weekend, with no health and safety incidents and on‑time hand back to passenger services.
“A great team effort. Big shout‑out to ADComms team for everything you have put into this weekend’s closure. The hard work and resilience of the team were on full display.”
