ADComms was appointed by Network Rail to replace the end-of-life TENOVIS telephony system at Waterloo Integrated Control Centre (ICC) and integrate its services into the existing CallTouch platform at Basingstoke Rail Operating Centre (ROC).
Working closely with Network Rail, Zetron and DDAT stakeholders, ADComms designed, installed and commissioned the required telephony and FTN infrastructure, delivering a seamless migration while maintaining uninterrupted operations at one of the UK's busiest rail control centres.
ADComms delivered a complete end-to-end telephony transformation, covering the design, installation, integration and commissioning of a new CallTouch IP telephony system for Waterloo ICC and Basingstoke ROC.
The project included the deployment of a new FTN node and associated fibre infrastructure, reconfiguration of the existing Basingstoke CallTouch environment, and migration of Waterloo telephony services onto the integrated platform. CallTouch workstations, voice recording, hotkeys and operational services were configured to provide a like-for-like replacement of the legacy TENOVIS system while maintaining a familiar user experience.
All works were completed in a live operational environment, with Waterloo ICC remaining fully operational throughout the migration and no disruption to railway operations.
A key challenge was replacing a legacy telephony system that had been in service for many years, with limited historical documentation available regarding the routing and configuration of telephone lines.
As commissioning progressed, the project team needed to remain agile and respond to unforeseen issues. One example involved the Wimbledon B2B link, which did not initially present on the new system. Through close collaboration with DDAT subject matter experts, it was identified that the affected lines were routed through the SPT network rather than the ICC network.
ADComms provided on-site technical support to facilitate the migration of these lines and ensure the successful operation of the new system without disrupting railway operations.

1 FTN node commissioned, including UPS installation.

2 fibre links installed and commissioned between FTN nodes.

20 CallTouch operator workstations commissioned while the control centre remained operational.

Successful integration of Waterloo ICC into the existing Basingstoke ROC telephony environment.

CallTouch configured to provide a like-for-like replacement of TENOVIS services.

Close collaboration with Zetron, the CallTouch manufacturer, to ensure operational requirements were fully met.

Zero disruption to operational railway services during migration activities.
The project successfully delivered the decommissioning of the legacy TENOVIS telephony system at Waterloo ICC and its integration into the existing CallTouch environment at Basingstoke ROC. Through meticulous planning and execution, the migration was completed without impacting operational railway communications, ensuring continuity of service throughout.
The resulting solution provides Network Rail with a modern, resilient and fully integrated telephony platform, supporting enhanced operational efficiency and long-term maintainability. Comprehensive training and transition support enabled the successful adoption of the new system, contributing to Network Rail's wider Control Transformation Programme objectives.
